Background
Alan Reed has a distinctive, fluid style, capturing the atmosphere of settings between bustling city life, to the serenity of the rural landscape, using watercolours and oils.
He has a studio in Northumberland where he produces commissioned portraits and also delivers painting holidays in Italy.
The problem
The Alan Reed website is built on WordPress and WooCommerce powers the eCommerce side. Both Alan and his wife manage it entirely without a web designer or team.
They were using an online tool to monitor the SEO and keyword progress of the website, yet the tool was highlighting a ream of on-page issues such as missing headings and ALT attributes, empty descriptions broken links, localisation and mixed HTTP status which needed to be addressed.
The solution
Over a period of several months, we audited and monitored the website to prioritise the issues and addresses some of the “quick wins” across the site.
We migrated the website onto more reliable UK-based hosting, which was a saving every month compared to their old host. The benefit of the move also improved the loading time and the version of PHP to bring them up to standard.
Over 46 notices for insecure pages were highlighted and fixed, so that every URL across the website used HTTPS.
Having FREE SSL also meant no extra changes from the old host, plus we could remove a plugin which handled this – one less plugin is a win!
As a WordPress website over 15 plugins were out of date, so we brought the entire platform up to date and maintained this throughout the course of the relationship.
Amongst the changes we setup redirects for the missing pages and setup tracking so that any future changes would resolve to a URL on the website.
The website in a now in a good position for their Technical SEO, now they can start looking at keyword research and content marketing in more depth with our expert partner, ROAR Marketing.
